The Pearl

Following my canoe adventures with Minnow in 2021, I bought a 15ft open sailing dinghy. She is a 'Swallows and Amazons' style Gunter rigged sloop. The hull, formed of thin overlapping planks fastened together with copper rivets, harks back to the Nordic clinker boat tradition.

​I have called her The Pearl in honour of the Irish photographer Jane W. Shackleton, the nineteenth-century photographer, whose custom-built vessel was likewise named.
