                                                  Ireland's Birds of Prey - Calendar 2023

Majestic, acrobatic and fearsome are just some of the reasons why birds of prey make for such exciting nature watching experiences. Fifteen species of raptor and three types of owl have been recorded as resident, migratory or occasional visitors on the island of Ireland.

I was inspired to create this calendar while volunteering on the All Ireland Hen Harrier Survey 2022. The images are reproduced from original drypoint etchings. Each month featured a different species - kestrel, sparrowhawk, barn owl, merlin, long-eared owl, hen harrier, marsh harrier, golden eagle, white-tailed sea eagle, red kite, peregrine falcon and buzzard. A brief description of each bird is included with their profile. At the end of the calendar I included a list of useful websites, tips on species conservation and suggested locations where it may be possible to sight some of the more elusive and endangered birds of prey.
